How do you find the influencers want to share your content with their massive fan base? In this article, we’ll show you 3 concrete ways to do just that.
What makes content go viral? In a word, people.
The more people that share your content, the more popular it will be.
This is why the number of shares is often used as a basis for measuring the popularity of a piece of content.
The most popular content online usually has thousands of shares, but some content gets hundreds of thousands and even millions of shares. That’s a lot, right?
However, not all shares are the same. Some shares are just by average people with small followings while others amplify your content reach just because their followings are so large.
While some shares will bring you two or three visitors, others will bring you thousands of visitors as well as new shares. The latter part is shared by social media influencers–a group of people that more and more businesses are looking to leverage in influencer marketing strategies.
But how do you separate the wheat from the chaff? Like this:How to Find #Influencers that are More Likely to Share Your Content Click To Tweet
1. Find the Top Sharers of Popular Content in Your Niche
Check for the most popular content in your niche and figure out who shared it. These influencers are more likely to share similar content when it’s suggested to them.
The reason is that most of them have huge followings who rely on them for a constant stream of useful content so they are always on the lookout for quality content to share.
It’s not very difficult to get their attention. If you have relevant high-quality content, chances are they’ll share.
A great tool for identifying these influencers is Buzzsumo.
For our demonstration, we’ll search with “content marketing” and check the top sharers for the most popular content in the last 12 months using this tool.
From the search results, 6 Tools to Turbocharge Your Content Marketing in 2017 came in at number 1 with 30k shares.
Now we’ll click on “View Sharers” to see the people who shared this content.
On this page, there’s an option to filter the results by “Influencers“. We can select this to see only the influencers who’ve shared the content.
You can use this approach to research a long list of influencers who’ll be more willing to share your content.
2. Check the Amplifiers of Your Most Popular Content
If you’ve had some of your own content do extremely well in the past generating a good amount of shares in the process, this will be another good place to look for influencers.
These influencers have already demonstrated an interest in your content so it shouldn’t be very difficult to get their attention again.
The way you’ll find these influencers is very similar to the demonstration in our first point.
The only difference is that this time, you’ll search with the link to your article in Buzzsumo instead of keywords.
For example, let’s search for “7 AI Figures and Statistics That Will Make Your Head Spin” (close to 1,000 shares) from our blog and view the sharers.
From the results, we can see all the influencers who shared this content.
We can document all these people, reach out to them the next time we write an article on a similar topic and they’ll be more likely to share our latest piece.
See how easy this can be?
3. Find the Authors of Popular Content in Your Niche
Another group to target is the authors of the content that are wildly shared online. Even though some of these authors may not have huge social media followings, they still wield a great deal of influence that can help boost your content.
As a content marketer, you’re very much aware of the importance of high-quality backlinks.
This is exactly what these authors can give you. This is because they link to a lot of useful resources from third party websites in their content.
Basically, if you offer them something that their audience likes, they’ll be happy to share because it helps them too.
The way to do this is:
- Pick a few popular authors in your niche and study the content they create.
- Start linking to their content.
- Think of ways to improve their content and create content around the missing pieces.
- Reach out to them and suggest your content.
Chances are you’ll build a relationship with a few of them and they’ll start linking to your content.
