After months of endless speculation, the highly anticipated details on the Google Pixel 2 are finally here, and the phone is MASSIVE!
Last year, Google made headlines when it retired the Nexus line to focus on its next generation. With the success of Pixel and Pixel XL–not to mention all the excellent features Google equipped these two devices with–everyone is now hungry to get a glimpse of Google’s latest flagship smartphone: the Pixel 2.
We gathered all the available Pixel 2 information circulating on the Internet and here’s what we learned so far about the phone.#GooglePixel2 is coming and it will give #Samsung a run for its money!Click To Tweet
Apparently, Pixel 2 has been assigned a codename dubbed as ‘taimen‘ device. Images of the Google phone that emerged online shows what appears to be a 2nd Generation Pixel XL.
What to Expect from the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2
The next generation Google Pixel 2 is anticipated to have the following key features:
- A massive 6-inch 1440p OLED Display
- Minimal top and bottom bezels plus smoother 3D edges
- Curved 3D glass, but not edge panels
- Two-tone rear case with smaller window of glass around the camera
- Shift in the display’s aspect ratio from 16:9 to 18:9 (like LG G6, but Galaxy S8 uses 18.5:9)
- A widened top speaker grill
- A reduced glass back panel
- Fingerprint reader at the lower rear part of the phone
According to XDA developers, the latest Pixel will be powered by the Snapdragon 835 chipset, a significant enhancement from the current Snapdragon 821-powered Pixel phones. It will also have 4GB of RAM, same as the currently existing models, and 128GB of storage.
Further information reveals that Google ‘might’ dump the headphone jack in Pixel 2 and replace it with stereo speakers. The model frame will also have a squeezable frame like the HTC U11 to launch Google Assistant and other apps.
It is still unclear if Google will incorporate the IP68 water resistance to Pixel 2 or will skip it like with the current model.
Reports also claim that Google will not focus on the number of megapixels with the Pixel 2 camera. Rather, the company will overcompensate with ‘extra features’ for the camera side of the phone, which we are looking forward to.
Still, the latest leaks indicate that the new phone will have a single lens that is much larger than the current model. The Pixel 2 is also said to have a 12MP rear camera and 7MP front-facing camera.
The price of the upcoming Pixel model is still unknown. However, experts believe that it might start at $699 for the smaller Pixel and around $800 for the XL version. Google has not been linear with naming its phones. Meaning, the “Pixel 2” or “Pixel XL 2” isn’t a permanent moniker until the official launch–which we all expect to be months away from now.
If we were to speculate, we’d say that the Google Pixel 2 will likely be released with upgrades in Google Assistant’s capabilities. Could voice AI’s finally be capable of managing podcasts? Switching between multiple apps? Starting and stopping various media functions? We hope so.
